Hi Matt:
Here are some quick tips on Conscious or Lucid Dreaming:
* As Yogi and Larry were suggesting when you hit dreaming just watch it at first until you start to get the lay of the land down there. Don't push for anything to happen. An open and permissive attitude naturally allows dreaming to occur.
*Essence is an open doorway into dreams. Circular breathing will bring on dreamstates after a time. When we're ready, conscious dreaming will happen for us. We've dreamed many, many times during the night so we already know how to dream. We've been likely conscious during dreams many times too, but have likely forgotten upon waking.
*Essence generating tech is a solid doorway into dreamstate work. Self-hypnosis leading to sonambulistic trance is quite good as well. This is basically absorbed attention. Also following dayreams, imagery, intuitions, and felt senses can eventually lead to deeper trance. As our unconscious becomes more adept at this work it knows what to spin out for us.
* Working with a simple intention to be alert during dreaming can be useful. Trim counter intentions around the intention to have lucid dreams with your favorite clearing devices. This will allow that intention to become unconscious and join us in the dreamworld down there.
* In dreams ask the question: "Am I dreaming". If you practice asking this question in a light trance, chances are you'll have that question available to you in dreams. It can be a call to going lucid.
*Checking up to see your dreaming can be simple tests:
Looking away and looking back. If anything changes you can assume dreams. Changing the size, shape, and color of objects will demonstrate dreaming. Other tests might include changing the size, shape, an opacity of your dream body. Can you change the room or scenery with your intention? Dreams.
* Flying and swimming can be very curious events in dreaming. Falling asleep in a dream and dreaming can be stimulating. Also someone can fall asleep and dream of having a dream of falling asleep and having a dream. Set an alarm clock in your dream so the multiple sleepers can wake up at once. (Don't do this until you know how to clear in dreams!)
*Release or clear emotions in dreams. Doing this will set off non-stop highspeed clearing where much material is cleared and many memory images come and go rapidly before the conscious dreamer.
*Practice your favorite tech inside a dream. It can set off some pretty amazing runs.
* Spinning is a great way to return to a dream or even get one cooking. Simply imagine spinning like a dervish or a top. This spinning likely sets off vestibular action which can restart a dream or trigger one when you're close to it. Another tech for dream restart is to imagine both your hands rubbing briskly over your belly and heart region.
* Dissolve, expand, or make an object or being larger or smaller.
* Talk things over with a famous historical person.
* Let your unconscious be the guide in this work. It has a greater natural wisdom.
*Look at a mirror down there.
* Summon up ghosts, future/past, archetypes. Pay attention to them.
* Dream of graveyards.
* Create a dream tv down there and ask it questions.
* If you run into a nightmare down there, relax and surrender to it. Soon it will reveal it's polar opposite.
* Mediatate down there and observe your own thoughts and feelings. See what dream-state non-duality is like.
That should keep you active for a bit.
Take care, Steve
